Some weddings capture the feeling of the people getting married very well, and Emma and Russell’s was exactly that. Colorful, fun, full of family, and full of love.
Getting ready
The morning started at a cozy Airbnb with Emma’s family all around her. The whole house had that excited, slightly chaotic, everyone-talking-at-once feel that I love to photograph.
The details
Every detail of this day was thoughtful. Place cards with beautiful wax seals and ribbon, lace tablecloths, candles everywhere, and a bar with a custom banner and two featured cocktails. Then there was the cake: a pink, naked, three-tier beauty covered in fall florals and berries. I took a LOT of photos of this cake.
The artsiest guestbook
Instead of a traditional guest book, Emma and Russell set up a big canvas and easel with a cart full of paints and brushes, and invited everyone to add something. With a family full of artists, it turned into something really special: names, hearts, flowers, little portraits, and one big “LOVE.” Watching it fill up throughout the night was one of my favorite parts of the day, and now they get to hang it in their home.
Portraits
These two are just fun. They brought a vintage wingback chair along for portraits (genius). Wandered down to the pond with the cattails and let them be themselves.
For this wedding, I rented a Fujifilm X100VI. I feel like every photographer eventually falls for Fuji, and I officially did. I loved it so much that right after this wedding, I invested in my own X-T5 so I’d never have to go without it again.
My priority on a wedding day is always the important shots, captured with my regular gear and the editing style my couples book me for. But staying creative matters a lot to me as a photographer, and having a second camera with a different look lets me play a little and give my couples some fun variety in their gallery. Emma and Russell’s day were a perfect fit for it.
